Duran's Cross cross cross :D

Post by Artemis0820 on Tue May 10, 2011 3:35 am

I've been wondering... again :lol:

I've got a liking into little details. They make you think... what is the meaning of this? or something like that. :)

This little detail for today is a part of Natsuki's child, Duran. :)

What's the meaning of the cross in the artbook anyway?

It was also shown in Natsuki's jacket in the manga. and also served as a tattoo on her left shoulder (also in the manga, btw. :D)

Wow, I actually have no clue about this one. Is the cross on manga Duran as well? If so, it could be a nod to the manga (or the other way around, I often forget what came first.) Hard to tell if it holds some kind of significance. Anyone out there, help!? XD;

If I remember correctly, "Durandal" is the name of the French Paladin Roland's sword. Knights (or Paladins) through out history have used the symbol of the cross on armor, cloaks, and weaponry (In Natsuki's case, Duran).

Duran's name possibly derived from there?

What the Master of Lock-picking said. It was mentioned during my brief time in Medieval Literature at college. Whether or not it's SUNRISE's official meaning, it makes the most sense. Kudos, Vampeh. ;3

Possibly originated when Japan and Europe were having trade and learning to culture bonding time with each other. Don't forget about Natsuki's prelude when Nagi told her about Child's real name Yafusa.

Also Natsuki's originality as European-Japanese descent

it also is in the manga. i think it was shown when Duran was revived into a Duran Max Heart (name could've been better, btw.)

You asked about the cross, I just gave you a long historical lecture in lieu of drawing on a white board. As for the usage, that's a tad too literal.

Damn, nao I miss my dry erase board....

Unfortunately this page from the art book is less than helpful about the cross, lol. There's only that detailed close up of it, which says next to it with the little arrow, "The crest on the back legs' ribbons".... so no help. The paragraph next to it just says everything we already know about Duran. Fast movement, bullets, it being named after Natsuki's doggy, just the basics. No explanation of the cross whatsoever anywhere on the page. Soooo... your guess is as good as mine? lol

Going along with the Durandel = French sword Vs Duran = Large canon:

A Matra Durandal is a missile/bomb developed by a French company... So they used the old symbol for the sword but the new age weaponry to make Duran more kick-ass, maybe.

The thing is, because of the Kuga/Kruger sur-names used, I would think Natsuki is of German decent, not French. Colour me confuzzled.
