Like FAILSAUCE with your subtitles?
Like FAILSAUCE with your subtitles?

As a long time anime viewer (or anything without the English language like a cheesy sentai or a classic Bruce Lee film), I've seen my fair share of craptastic subtitles. I'll kick things off with one from the Hong Kong DVD set of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (the live action Sailor Moon series starring Sawai Miyuu, Keiko Kitagawa, Ayaka Komatsu, Aya Sugimoto and others...)

Any Sailor Moon fan can point out what seriously wrong here. ^_~ It's grown on me though, it's how I playfully refer Aya Sugimoto
- Spoiler:
- (who portrays Queen Beryl)

On the my Version of the Mai Otome sub they call Garderobe 'Galdelupe' in the first episodes. Also it's strange enough that it means wardrobe in German

I may be wrong, but when I was watching this archaeology program the other day, they were calling the shaft under the toilets in medievil castles a garderobe.
Related to the topic, I swear the teddy from Strawberry panic is called Percival, but sometimes the subtitles call him Oshibaru.

I always thought her bear was addressed as Oshibaru in the anime though.
I have a set of Simoun bootlegs that have many fail subs, but they're bootlegs so you can't expect much. :D

I thought that at first too, but later on in some episodes he was called Percival in the subs. This made me listen more carefully (coz I'm cool like that haha) and it does sound like how a Japanese person would say Percival. Of course, I could be hearing it like that because of the later subs.

It's not about Germany and the Mai Series. It's about Germany and subbing in general. But the Mai Series is really really awful. I couldn't stand listening to it at all.

XD Wow. In any case, here's an old thread (as I've said a million times, old threads are allowed to be revived) that talks about translation mistakes for the Mai-Series:
Mai-HiME/Otome Translation Mistakes

Sometime in the near future, I must share one one of the worst subtitle work ever from the Tenchi Muyo! GXP Hong Kong set. *shudders*

Re: Like FAILSAUCE with your subtitles?
Oh! I'm following a blog full of Yu-Gi-Oh fails on tumblr. XD Apparently a group tried subbing the Yu-Gi-Oh series and they did a horrible job. I still can't watch it because of the horrible English. But, the screenshots are hilarious and the blogger did all the dirty work finding the good ones.
