Could Midori beat Shizuru Viola? [Mai-Otome Episode]

---

The mysterious group known as the Aswad spot a helpless Arika Yumemiya and Sergay Wáng. Midori, the leader of Aswad, orders their termination...luckily Haruka Armitage and the rest of Garderobe's finest arrive to save the day. Midori takes on the combined forces of Haruka and Shizuru together with her secret weapon - Gakutenou.

From Mai-Otome Episode 10: "A Serious Otome Matter"
"Sore ga Otome no Ichdaiji" (それが乙女の一大事)

---

In Episode 10 of the Mai-Otome anime, Shizuru and Midori battled for the first and only time. It wouldn't be Shizuru's first clash with the Aswad, as she took on Rad before. This was a step above the Cyborg Reito, as Midori was leader of the Aswad. We're given hints that Midori is a known Otome hunter, killing a high ranking Otome in Fiar Grosse episodes later. Though not every Otome in the same and to be fair, Fiar's overconfidence is what really did her in. Not to take away from Midori's victory, it does take smarts to use your SLAVE when the opponent least expects it. In her fight against the Bewitching Smile Amethyst however, Midori appeared to have been stressing a bit. Meiste Viola held her own by taking on Midori and Gakutenou head on, even using her great strength to knock Gakutenou off balance. In return, Shizuru couldn't land a single fatal hit on Midori as she was able to parry everything she threw at her.

So imagine if Midori's REM device were given unlimited time. Could she have added Shizuru to her list of trophies? Or would Shizuru easily murder another Aswad and call it a day with Natsuki love making? Discuss, debate and rant. My thoughts coming soon. HiME

Viola VS. Midori
WHO WILL HAVE THEIR HAND RAISED AS CHAMPION!?

Judging how well she was fairing, I vote yes, this isn't just my undying love for Midori speaking, she single-handedly (literally) took a blow from Haruka's wrecking ball, I think that Midori had already figured out the weapon of Shizuru's capabilities and though Midori would've probably gotten injured, maybe even badly, but Midori would've made the fatal shot on Shizuru

I say neither.

Judging from their fight in MO, both of them could easily anticipate each other's moves and deflect it flawlessly. Midori had many years of experience in the battlefield, and so is Shizuru.

If they were inside a large country (where it is their battlefield), they could pulverize it into smithereens, with no one winning. Just saying my thoughts.

An array of opinions we've got here! I'll add my two cents now, just don't expect me to pull any punches. Wink

First of all, we've established Midori's fighting record against other Otome. Aswald never had the best history with fighting Otome, especially Meisters. These jokers were dusted by John Smith on a bike! The ones seen during the S.ifr era pretty much served as target practice for everyone weaker than Lena. Midori entering their lives as leader gave them new life. Her victory over Fiar is one for the ages because the series built up Fiar as an unstoppable force. You all seem to forget that overconfidence is a weakness, no matter how powerful the individual is. Shizuru has a confidence, yes. We've seen her take down SLAVES without any real fear or concern for her own life. The same can be said in her fight against Midori, except she did not express full superiority over her opponent. She was there when Midori caught Haruka's mace attack, I'm sure she kept that in mind.

Advantages Midori has:

Her great strength is equal to that, if not more than most Otome. Haruka's primary attack was blocked by her hand and this is the Otome that can throw ??? ton spaceships into orbit with one arm. Midori is able to summon her SLAVE or CHILD (for the Mai-HiME purists), Gakutenou to serve as an assist in battle. Raising her chances of victory. Midori also displays amazing swordsmanship, preferring to fight dual wielded. Most of all, she knows how Otome fight and even knows who Shizuru is and what she's capable of.

Advantages Shizuru has:

Unlike Midori, Shizuru Viola is capable of faster speeds. Her whip chain bladed Element is more useful for versatile combat against the enemy, also serving for better reach. Shizuru's strength is tremendous, though not fully put to the test. We've seen her swing Gakutenou easily without gassing out. All Otome are also able to survive the vacuum of space, so Shizuru could also grab Midori and take her into space where she can't breathe. Normally if any Otome grabbed the non-Otome, that's all she wrote. I don't think Midori would give her that opportunity, but it's a possibility.

My winner? It's a tough decision as Midori is above average as a fighter and Shizuru is one of the most skilled Otome, being one of the Five Columns. At the end of the day, while it's VERY close, I have to give it to Shizuru Viola. The thought in my mind would play out like the fight with Fiar, only with Shizuru knowing about Gakutenou ahead of time. Yes, I can use this trump card as their first fight happened and this versus fight centers on what would happen in a rematch. I'll admit that if Gakutenou lands a perfect blow on Shizuru, that's all she wrote. It's very unlikely that Shizuru would allow this to happen without taking out Gakutenou first. That's what it looked like she was trying to do during her fight with Midori before the REM shattered. During the fight, Shizuru went into attack position; charging directly at Midori and Gakutenou. Suicical on her part, but she clearly knew what she was doing by immediately countering Gakutenou's own chain whip attack. She saw it coming, proving to me that Shizuru is steps ahead of Midori in combat.

Midori won't go down easily, that much is true. With a bit more training, she could probably beat Shizuru. As is, Shizuru will have her hand raised. Mainly for being a better tactician and not being stupid, like Fiar. Even Una Shamrock wouldn't of been suckered easily, although a similar event happened against Lena, Una wasn't expecting a level beyond that of the Blue Sky form.

Winner - Viola

^ For my timid members, don't take my opinion as absolute. It's just my opinion. :) Not the gospel truth for everyone. Just me. haha!

Haha, I dunno if she'll be *that* injured. Shizuru has a Medical Officer for a friend, Midori doesn't. ;p I do admit that she won't make short work of Midori. On the contrary, Midori will be known as one of the few who was able to humble the Bewitching Smile Amethyst.

If Midori would have fought against Viola one-on-one, then, I think, Shizuru would have won, but it would not be an easy victory, Midori is a worthy opponent.

But if Gakutenou would have joined the fight, then Midori+Gakutenou would have won... two worthy opponents against one... =))

wait, weren't there medical officers in the Aswad? also I highly doubt it is easy to recover from a sword to the left lung (I'm assuming Midori would get in at least one blow to an internal organ)

Thanks, Wendi. I try. :)

PostoronnimV wrote:But if Gakutenou would have joined the fight, then Midori+Gakutenou would have won... two worthy opponents against one... =))

I don't know about that one, considering the actual fight involved Midori and Gakutenou against Shizuru. If anything, the fight shows Midori dependence on Gakutenou's assistance. And wouldn't you know it, Shizuru displayed nice crowd control. Without Gakutenou, Midori's chances aren't as strong. :) Team Midori with say...Arika or Lena Sayers and Shizuru is pretty much dead.

Midori Sugiura wrote:wait, weren't there medical officers in the Aswad? also I highly doubt it is easy to recover from a sword to the left lung (I'm assuming Midori would get in at least one blow to an internal organ)

I think so, The now Professor Gal is one of them. Then again, maybe not? Where was their assistance when Mimi suffered blunt force trauma at the hands of the desert monsters (which I will identify on the correct thread soon). Sure, the refugees of Wind City were of no concern to the Aswald, but by that point, Midori agreed to take them in; sparing their lives. She could of offered something to a dying child? Or at best, mention it.

Note that Shizuru is more durable than Midori. Midori was slammed against a wall (no wall damage) by Fiar, obviously hurting her. Otome like Shizuru get slammed against mountains and survives nuclear blasts. There's no contest on that front. As for impaling damage, that's debatable. Both Midori and Shizuru have nanomachines inside their bodies, it all depends on who's more stabbed and cut up after an extensive melee fight. Midori's chances are good because I'm giving her unlimited REM time, but beating Shizuru with a single strike won't be easy. As I mentioned, their melee skills are about on the even level. I only lean towards Shizuru a bit more because of her superior speed and that's not just travel distance. Razz

Struck me as kind of odd with Mimi, I mean they can turn dozens into cyborgs and make Midori a REM, but they couldn't save Mimi, I guess this is just a case of

PLOT CONVENIENCE

but add Gakutenou to the equation, which is fair as Shizuru has her robe, and the match becomes extremely hard to call. I'd say close range goes to Midori & Gakutenou, by a small margin, medium range goes to Shizuru and long range? It goes to neither, as they couldn't fight at long range

Well, I disagree? ... Midori and Gakutenou did not fight together against Shizuru, they fought by turns, one after another... if Gakutenou fought, Midori remained inactive and vice versa, respectively... but if they really fought jointly, then ... Shizuru would be defeated, imo...

I call plot convenience too. Mimi had to die for the scene to work. Specifically, to set up Mashiro's speech and official alliance with Midori's Aswald.

Maybe! Blame Midori's tactics during the official fight on that one. I don't blame her for summoning Gakutenou from the get-go. She thought she was gonna face three Otome at a time. She didn't expect Shizuru to be so strong. I'm sure she could beat Nina (at that time. Harmonium Nina would wipe the floor with Midori) easily if they had a go. As for Miss "GUTS", I think Midori would of given Haruka a hard time. Haruka's ego is so big, that it's got it's own zip code. I'm confident she would of ended up like Fiar. Unlike Fiar though, I'm sure Haruka would of left one nasty life threatening injury on Midori in before dying. Her counter attack on the head of the alien Yuna from Zwei proves that Haruka uses the "If I'm going to die, you're coming with me" trump card.

OMG where did the argument go??? XD Why are they in space now?? Why are dead people rising to help out Midori?? And now monkey business and statues of liberty!!
I suppose with all this happening one of them would be too distracted to pay attention to the battle!

I can see both winning, just depends on the conditions and how far they are willing to push it, physically and psychologically. However the one with the most odds in her favor is Shizuru. (And that doesn't mean much in battle)
Luu, Lena or Arika wouldn't make a difference. I can always count on Shizuru's flirting abilities to knock them out! Or their common sense to either try to stop the fight or stay out of it and spend family time together.
Why would Broly... No, you know what? Son Goku would kick all their asses!

I declare Son Goku the winner! He's like a zombie! Doesn't stay dead for long!!!

LOL! That's more like Sailor "Santa Christ" Moon. After what Bills did to Goku in that new clip of Battle of Gods, I think staying dead would be a blessing for Son.

On that subject, I'm glad Midori brought up the infamous Death Battle fight from Screw Attack. I feel like I've lost a VS debate for the first time in an indirect way. I had no rebuttal after the video ended. Razz I admit it! Superman is better, based on their well researched statistics. My only major WHAT THE BUCK moment was Goku using a power pole while in SSJ2. Let's just call that nostalgia value for anyone who might remember Dead Zone and World's Strongest...okay, back on topic! To discuss further, please head over to the random thoughts or rant thread. Razz I'd rather not steal attention away from our ladies with fanboy fights and WHAT THOSE BLOODY BASTARDS DID TO THIS PLANET!!!!!!

Objection

^ XD I love that girl. It's a possibility that CHILDs may provide breathing support and space vacuum travel for their HiME. Or should I say, a SLAVE for their Aswald summoner...

Until then, I'll believe it to be a Kagutsuchi thing.

Then again the Hime did all survive a high altitude flight with no extra oxygen when destroying the HiME Star

Yeah, but I'd like to know how high the altitude was. :) It would help answer the question. What is certain is that when the CHILDs starting to radiate that golden glow, the HiME gained more power. That increase in power might of come from Crystal Princess Mashiro, as crazy as that sounds.
