Unused Concepts in Mai-HiME

Post by GAP on Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:04 pm

While the story is all about love and frinedship, I just wish that they expanded on some concepts suchas the Artifical Hime and the various organizations that permeate the series. Although we Iwasuka, First District and SEARRS fighting for control of the star, we never really got to see what the endgame for Iwasuka was. There are many more concepts but I cannot think of any at the moment but what do you thionk What concpet should expanded upon in Hime.

Everything you just say but to interpret your question. It seems Iwasuka and First District were in the same volition through the pre and post Carnival. They're trying to create their own types of artificial HiME(or own acronym) for benefit of creating their own Materialization branch, taking down everyone (SEARRS) and the Obsidian's.

Chigau. You've almost completely gotten everything wrong.

There are two main organizations, District Number One/First District and Searrs. They both know what is going on, and work to manage it, but they do so in different ways, for different ends, and with different end goals. In a way, their goals could be meshed together, but because people aren't inherently nice or trustworthy, they work in a generally antagonistic way.

D#1 works to guide the carnivals and the choices made concerning them, for the purposes of lessening the fallout on regular folks. They do this, because they're cultists - and the "OL" is their god. He, in turn, doesn't really give two shakes for them, but they make the carnival run more smoothly for him (which is to say, more turbulently for the girls/women involved), so he sees no need to edit the arrangement. D#1 engages in damage control, both literally and figuratively; they maintain the Masquerade, since these Magical Girls are not Invisible to Normals. Iwasuka Pharmaceuticals is a company whose direction is controlled by D#1. From what we can gather of Saeko's involvement, Iwasuka's sub-task was to identify the HiME before they manifest themselves, thus making them, and the Carnival, easier to manage.

Searrs is fundamentally different. The Searrs Organization also has its hands pulling many strings, but for different cause: they effectively, see themselves as gods (influenced by Nordic myth), and their eventual goal is to end the carnivals...by hijacking the powers of the HiME, and ultimately, of OL. Which on analysis, doesn't sound fundamentally worse that what OL & D#1 do, and in some ways (no more carnivals), sounds distinctly better. The only problem being, Searrs' plan is basically to end the carnival by making it ALWAYS be carnival time, 24-7-365, with the Searrs board in place of OL. Their goal is world domination, and to them, OL is both a rival, and a tool in the making. Of course, with human beings in charge, there is the hope that such rule would be comprehensible, and thus more tolerable in a way; after all, what if you were successful enough that you were invited to be on Searrs' board? On the other hand, with that much power, especially if they can make themselves immortal, why should they want new board menbers; why not just let successful people get to a certain point, then just do away with them, and take over their stuff? This very tactic, we saw happen, in the Bridge Arc.
